REGIONAL COORDINATORS
There are three regional coordinators representing Public Health, Hospitals and RMRS. They, along with the Chairperson and former Chairperson, make up the Executive Board of the Steering Committee.

Kristi Kato is the NECO Region 5 Public Health Coordinator. She is responsible for coordinating emergency preparedness activities for 28 public health districts in a 13-county region.

Prior to joining the Summit County Health District, Kristi earned her bachelor's degree in science from Kent State University.  In August 2008 she completed the Master Exercise Practioner Program through the Emergency Management Institute.

Regional Hospitals Coordinator
Sarah Metzger is the NECO Region 5 Hospitals Coordinator and theAdministrative Director
of the Akron Regional Hospital Association. She coordinates emergency preparedness activities for Akron Regional Hospital Association membership and facilitates a grant from Health and Human Services through the Ohio Department of Health, focused on enhanced emergency preparedness activities for healthcare for a 13-county region. Sarah attends various local, regional and state meetings to represent hospitals' issues related to emergency readiness and facilitates the disbursement of approximately $1.6 million in grant dollars annually.

Prior to joining the Akron Regional Hospital Association in 2005, Sarah was a marketing communications professional for a local hospital. She earned her bachelor's degree in business and organization communications from the University of Akron.

Regional Hospitals Coordinator
Bruce Shade is the NECO Region 5 RMRS Coordinator. He is also a part-time paramedic/firefighter for the City of Willoughby, OH and a paramedic instructor at Cuyahoga Community College.

Bruce has been involved in emergency services since 1972, starting as a volunteer firefighter/EMT in Granger Twp, OH. From 1975 to 1999 he served as paramedic, educational supervisor, paramedic training program director, and commissioner for the City of Cleveland’s Division of Emergency Medical Service. From 2000 to 2001 he served as executive administrator and the city’s Disaster and Emergency Coordinator. From 2001 until his retirement in 2006, he served as the city’s Assistant Public Safety Director.

Bruce is a past President, Vice President, and Treasurer of the National Association of EMTs and chairperson of the Instructor Coordinator Society. He has served as president of several local associations and chairperson of many committees and task forces. Bruce has authored several EMS textbooks and has written many EMS-related articles. He has lectured extensively at local, regional, state, and national EMS conferences.
